A powerful explosion on a railway track near Shikarpur derailed five carriages of the Jaffar Express, injuring six passengers. The incident occurred close to the Sultan Kot Railway Station, where terrorists attempted to target the passenger train traveling from Rawalpindi to Quetta.
According to officials, three carriages went off the track due to the blast, but fortunately, no fatalities were reported. The injured passengers were shifted to a nearby hospital. Security sources said preliminary investigations suggest that the banned militant outfit Baloch Republican Guards (BRG) was behind the attack. The group has reportedly claimed responsibility for the explosion.
Police and bomb disposal teams cordoned off the area and collected evidence from the site. Railway authorities confirmed that rescue teams were called in from Sukkur, and after removing the damaged coaches and repairing the track, train services were restored.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah strongly condemned the blast near Sultan Kot and directed IG Police Ghulam Nabi Memon to submit a detailed investigation report. According to the Chief Minister’s spokesperson, Murad Ali Shah instructed officials to ensure immediate medical assistance to the injured and a thorough probe into the incident.
Security experts say this attack is part of a recent pattern of attempts to target the Jaffar Express. A few months earlier, terrorists had attacked the same train near Sibi, killing 26 passengers and taking several others hostage before security forces conducted a successful rescue operation, eliminating all militants involved.
Officials believe these repeated attacks reflect the growing frustration of terrorist elements who aim to disrupt national peace and attract international attention. However, timely and coordinated action by Pakistan’s security forces continues to prevent major tragedies.
