Jaffar Express derailed near Mastung’s Dasht after a planted bomb explosion

At least 12 passengers sustained minor injuries when a powerful explosion targeted the Peshawar-bound Jaffar Express in the Dasht area of Mastung district, Balochistan, on Tuesday evening.

According to government officials, the blast — caused by explosives planted on the railway track — led to the derailment of six carriages, while one carriage was completely destroyed. A railway spokesperson confirmed that around 270 passengers were on board at the time of the incident.

The explosion occurred near the Spizend area, approximately 30 kilometers southeast of Quetta. SHO Levies Dasht, Akhtar Baloch, said unknown assailants had planted an improvised explosive device (IED) on the track, which detonated as the train passed over it.

The BRG, designated as a terrorist organization, later claimed responsibility for the attack.

Security forces cordoned off the site and launched a search operation, while rescue teams shifted the injured to nearby hospitals.

Dasht has witnessed multiple terrorist attacks in recent years, with railway lines and passenger trains frequently targeted by insurgents.
