Talks commenced in Islamabad on Saturday, with high-level diplomatic engagement marking the opening of negotiations between the United States and Iran, as Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met U.S. Vice President JD Vance at the Prime Minister’s Office.

The meeting formally set the stage for the Islamabad Talks, aimed at easing recent tensions in the Middle East through dialogue and diplomacy.

The U.S. delegation, led by Vice President Vance, included Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and senior advisor Jared Kushner. On the Pakistani side, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Interior Minister Mohsin Raza Naqvi were also present.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif welcomed the constructive engagement between both sides and expressed hope that the talks would serve as a stepping stone toward durable peace in the region.

He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to facilitating dialogue and supporting efforts aimed at achieving long-term stability.
