IRGC Convoy Ambush in Zahedan Sistan-Baluchistan
Security forces tighten patrols in Zahedan after an IRGC convoy was attacked near the Pakistan border.

Three members of Iran’s IRGC, Revolutionary Guard were killed after unidentified gunmen ambushed their convoy in Zahedan, Sistan-Baluchistan in Iran. Security forces have intensified operations near the Pakistan border as no group has claimed responsibility.

Gunmen have killed three members of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in the restive southeastern province of Sistan-Baluchistan near the Pakistan border, state media reported. According to IRNA, the Guard personnel were ambushed while patrolling in a rugged mountainous area near the city of Lar, located more than 1,100 kilometers southeast of Tehran.

Authorities have not confirmed whether any other IRGC personnel were injured during the assault. The attackers, described by Iranian officials as “terrorists,” managed to flee and are still at large. No militant outfit has claimed responsibility so far.

Sistan — bordering both Pakistan and Afghanistan — is among Iran’s least developed and most volatile regions, frequently witnessing clashes between militant groups, armed smugglers, and Iranian security forces.

This latest attack follows a series of operations in August in which Iranian forces killed 13 militants after a group had earlier ambushed and killed five police personnel on patrol.

Fresh reports also indicate a separate clash between security forces and armed militants in the city of Zahedan. Iranian media say unidentified gunmen targeted an IRGC convoy during a search operation aimed at apprehending suspected separatists along the border zone. The Guard later confirmed the deaths of three personnel but did not reveal which group the raiding unit was pursuing.

Officials say border surveillance has now been further tightened and additional security operations are underway to prevent more attacks. No group active in Zahedan has yet claimed responsibility for the assault.
