Government sources have confirmed that Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is expected to arrive in Islamabad tonight along with a high-level delegation. Reports also suggest that a US delegation may also visit Islamabad.

According to officials, a US logistics and security team is already present in the capital to support ongoing diplomatic engagements. Sources indicate that discussions with Pakistan’s mediation team could lead to a second round of peace talks in Islamabad.

During his visit, the Iranian foreign minister is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The meeting will also be attended by both civilian and military leadership.

Iran’s semi-official Mehr News Agency reported that Araghchi’s regional tour will begin today, including visits to Islamabad, Muscat, and Moscow.

Earlier today, Abbas Araghchi held telephone conversations with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Army Chief Syed Asim Munir. The discussions focused on regional security, ceasefire developments, and ongoing diplomatic efforts.

During the talks, Ishaq Dar emphasized the importance of continuous dialogue and diplomatic engagement to resolve regional issues. Araghchi appreciated Pakistan’s constructive and consistent role in facilitating peace and acknowledged its diplomatic efforts.

Meanwhile, US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth stated in a media briefing that this is an opportune time for Iran to reach an agreement. He reiterated that the United States’ objective is clear: Iran must not acquire nuclear weapons, urging Tehran to accept a favourable deal.

Hegseth also mentioned that pressure on Iran is ongoing, with a second US fleet expected to be deployed soon. He added that US forces have already seized several vessels and may take further action.

In a related development, former US President Donald Trump announced a three-week extension of the ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon. According to Trump, recent meetings with senior officials from both sides were highly positive, leading to an agreement to maintain the ceasefire and avoid hostilities for the extended period.
