Iran denies reports of refusing talks in Islamabad, praises Pakistan’s mediation efforts between the US and Iran, and calls for a lasting ceasefire.
Iran has categorically denied reports that it refused to participate in negotiations in Islamabad, reaffirming its openness to diplomatic engagement through Pakistan.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that Tehran has “never refused” to travel to Pakistan for talks, contradicting recent media claims suggesting otherwise.
Pakistan’s Role as Mediator Between US and Iran
Pakistan has stepped forward to mediate between the United States and Iran in an effort to de-escalate rising tensions. Officials maintain that the initiative is rooted in goodwill and regional stability.
The move reflects Islamabad’s growing diplomatic engagement in facilitating dialogue amid escalating geopolitical tensions.
A report by The Washington Post claimed that Iran had declined a meeting with U.S. officials in Islamabad. According to the report, mediators suggested Tehran had conveyed it was unwilling to attend talks and considered U.S. demands unacceptable.
Iran Responds: ‘We Never Refused Talks’
Responding to the claims, Abbas Araghchi took to social media, sharing a video highlighting the Iranian public’s affection for Pakistan.
He emphasized that Iran has not rejected negotiations in Islamabad and appreciated Pakistan’s efforts to broker a ceasefire. He further stated that some U.S. media outlets are misrepresenting developments related to the situation.
Araghchi reiterated that Iran seeks a comprehensive and lasting end to the conflict, rather than temporary arrangements.
Pakistan’s Foreign Office also dismissed the circulating claims. In an official statement yesterday, it urged media outlets to exercise caution while reporting on sensitive diplomatic matters.
The statement noted that reports suggesting Iran declined participation after near “breakthrough” moments were false and based on unverified sources.
Despite conflicting media narratives, both Pakistan and Iran have signaled that diplomatic channels remain open. Pakistan continues to play a constructive role in easing tensions, while Iran insists on meaningful and lasting peace conditions.
