A reported missile and drone attack by Iran targeting key energy installations in Saudi Arabia’s eastern region, including the industrial hub of Jubail, has sharply escalated tensions in the Middle East, raising alarm over regional stability and global energy security.
According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office, the government has expressed serious concern and unequivocal condemnation over the strikes carried out overnight on Saudi energy facilities.
In an official statement, the Foreign Office spokesperson described the attacks as a “serious violation of Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.” Pakistan reaffirmed its unwavering support for the Kingdom’s security, safety, and stability, emphasizing that it stands firmly with Saudi Arabia against any threats.
The spokesperson further stated that Pakistan will continue to support the “brotherly country” in the face of any aggression, warning that such actions pose a significant risk to peace and security across the region.
The reported strike marks a rare and dangerous escalation, involving direct targeting of Saudi Arabia’s critical economic infrastructure. Analysts warn that attacks on oil refineries and petrochemical facilities could disrupt global energy markets and deepen instability across the Gulf.
Saudi authorities have consistently maintained that foreign military bases operating within the Kingdom, including those of the United States, function under formal agreements and are not used for offensive operations against neighboring states. In this context, the attack is being viewed as both disproportionate and destabilizing.
Pakistan has, since the beginning of rising tensions in the Middle East, repeatedly urged restraint and dialogue. Officials have cautioned that targeting neighboring countries—particularly Saudi Arabia—could further inflame conflict and undermine diplomatic efforts.
Despite mounting pressure, Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states have so far exercised restraint, focusing on defensive measures while allowing space for ongoing mediation and ceasefire initiatives.
The timing of the attack is particularly critical, as diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions were gaining momentum. Observers say the incident could undermine fragile negotiations and erode trust among regional actors.
Pakistan and Saudi Arabia share longstanding strategic, economic, and defense ties that transcend sectarian and ethnic divides. Islamabad has consistently highlighted the importance of safeguarding Saudi Arabia’s stability, given its central role in the Muslim world.
Energy infrastructure attacks of this nature not only threaten state security but also have far-reaching consequences for civilian populations, especially in developing countries dependent on stable energy supplies.
Pakistan has called on all parties to exercise maximum restraint and pursue diplomatic solutions, stressing that sustainable peace in the region can only be achieved through dialogue and mutual understanding.
