Football activities in Balochistan have received a major boost as Quetta hosts Pakistan’s first-ever International Football Training Camp, organized through a joint initiative of the Government of Balochistan (GoB) and DHA Quetta in collaboration with the renowned Steven Gerrard Academy.
The camp, running from January 26 to February 6, has brought six international expert coaches to the provincial capital to deliver professional-level training aligned with global football standards. The initiative marks a significant step toward developing structured, high-quality football training opportunities for young athletes in Pakistan.
A total of 63 footballers, including 12 female players, are participating in the program. Teams from across Northern and Southern Balochistan are represented, ensuring broad regional inclusion and equal opportunity for emerging talent.
The training program focuses on modern coaching techniques, technical skill development, physical conditioning, and professional discipline, aiming to prepare young players for competition at both national and international levels. Special coaching sessions for the women’s football team are also part of the camp, highlighting efforts to promote inclusivity and strengthen women’s participation in sports.
Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti welcomed the initiative and expressed optimism about the revival of sports activities in the province.
“Balochistan’s sports grounds are coming alive again. The international-level training of 63 footballers has formally begun, and it is encouraging to see 12 women athletes actively participating in this program,” he said.
He noted that the involvement of foreign coaches and modern training methods reflects the provincial government’s serious commitment to nurturing youth talent. According to the Chief Minister, structured training under international supervision will improve players’ technical abilities while boosting their confidence, morale, and professional outlook.
The Steven Gerrard Academy, known internationally for developing young football talent through contemporary football philosophies and expert coaching, is playing a central role in the camp. Its participation is expected to help raise local training standards and expose players to global best practices in football development.
Officials say the initiative is part of a broader effort by the provincial government to revive sports culture, invest in youth development, and create pathways for talented athletes from Balochistan to compete on larger platforms.
The camp is being viewed as a landmark moment for football in the province — one that not only strengthens Pakistan’s sports ecosystem but also offers young players a rare opportunity to train under international expertise without leaving the country.
