One terrorist was killed and two others were arrested during a successful intelligence-based operation in Kech, Balochistan, security officials confirmed on Friday.
The operation was conducted in the Hotabad area of Kech district after security forces received credible intelligence about the presence of militants linked to a banned outfit. During an intense exchange of fire, forces neutralized one terrorist of Afghan origin, while two injured militants were taken into custody.
Officials described the operation as a precise and targeted action that effectively disrupted militant activity in the region and prevented potential attacks.
BLA Commander Killed in Separate Kharan Operation
In another major development earlier this week, security forces eliminated Manzoor Kurd alias “Malling Cheeta,” a notorious Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) commander, during an operation in Kharan on 21 January.
Authorities identified him as the main suspect behind a recent bank robbery in Kharan and said he was involved in targeted killings, violent attacks, and serious human rights abuses. His death is being seen as a significant blow to militant networks operating in the area.
12 Militants Killed While Foiling Bank Attack in Kharan
On 16 January, security forces also foiled a large-scale militant assault in Kharan city after dozens of heavily armed terrorists attempted to storm the area and loot a private bank.
The swift response by security personnel resulted in the killing of 12 terrorists, while key facilitators were arrested alive. Officials said the operation prevented major casualties and protected civilian infrastructure.
Cross-Border Links Under Investigation
Security sources say investigations indicate that Afghan nationals have been working alongside banned militant outfits such as the BLA and BLF, increasing the complexity of security challenges in Balochistan. Authorities continue to monitor cross-border militant linkages as part of ongoing counter-terrorism efforts.
DG ISPR: Over 75,000 Intelligence-Based Operations in 2025
Highlighting the scale of nationwide counter-terrorism efforts, the Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) revealed that 75,175 intelligence-based operations (IBOs) were conducted across Pakistan in 2025 — averaging more than 206 operations per day.
Out of these, 58,778 IBOs were carried out in Balochistan alone, resulting in 784 terrorists killed during the year. Officials say the sustained operational tempo reflects Pakistan’s continued efforts to dismantle militant networks and maintain stability.
