Armored police vehicle damaged after IED blast on RCD Road in Sorab, Balochistan
An armored police vehicle sustained heavy damage in an IED blast under a bridge in Sorab, Balochistan.

One police personnel was martyred on Thursday after an improvised explosive device (IED) blast targeted an armored police vehicle in Sorab district of Balochistan.

According to security sources, the explosive device had been planted beneath a bridge along RCD Road and detonated as the armored vehicle passed over it. The explosion caused significant damage to the police vehicle as well as the bridge.

The martyred police official was identified as Khalil Ahmed, who was driving the vehicle at the time of the attack.

Condemning the incident, Samina Mumtaz Zehri, a Senator of Balochistan Awami Party, termed the attack a “cowardly act” aimed at spreading fear and destabilizing peace in the province.

“I strongly condemn the cowardly bomb blast on a police armored vehicle in Sorab on RCD Road, which resulted in the martyrdom of driver Khalil Ahmed and caused severe damage to the vehicle and the bridge,” the senator said in a statement.

She added that the attack claimed a precious life and created fear among the public. “Such attacks on law-enforcement personnel and public infrastructure are a direct assault on peace and security,” she said, extending heartfelt condolences to the family of the martyred policeman.

Senator Zehri urged the authorities to conduct a transparent investigation and bring those responsible to justice at the earliest.

Meanwhile, officials point out that banned militant groups, including the Balochistan Liberation Army, have increasingly targeted law-enforcement personnel and educated Baloch officers serving in the province.

On May 30, 2025, militants targeted Assistant Deputy Commissioner Hidayatullah Baloch, highlighting a broader pattern of attacks against educated Baloch youth who have secured positions in the bureaucracy after years of effort to serve the province.

Police officials, Baloch bureaucrats, and even members of the judiciary have repeatedly come under attack, raising serious concerns about attempts to discourage educated youth and push students toward extremist and violent ideologies, particularly through indoctrination in schools and colleges.

Security in the area has been tightened following the blast, while investigations into the incident are underway.
