Levies personnel stand guard at Gidar checkpost after Balochistan attack

A deadly IED blast in Balochistan’s Jaffarabad on Friday claimed the life of a 10-year-old boy and left his younger brother seriously injured, police confirmed. The tragic explosion occurred in the bypass area of Dera Allahyar, where unknown assailants planted an explosive device targeting security personnel but instead struck innocent children.

According to SHO Javed Ahmed of Dera Allahyar Police, the device was planted near the zero point on the bypass. It detonated as the two brothers were passing through, killing 10-year-old Zakir Ali Domki on the spot and injuring his brother Siraj Ahmed Domki. The blast also shattered windows of nearby shops and houses, causing panic in the area.

Authorities immediately reached the site, shifting the victims to the district hospital. “It is not yet known who the intended target of the attack was,” SHO Ahmed said, adding that investigations were ongoing.

Security sources suspect that banned separatist groups such as the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) and Baloch Liberation Front (BLF) may be responsible for the incident. Both groups have a record of planting improvised explosive devices (IEDs) near civilian and military installations across the province.

In the past, children have repeatedly become victims of such attacks. In May 2025, a vehicle-borne IED targeting a school bus killed eight schoolchildren and injured several others in Balochistan.

These recurring attacks highlight how militant outfits continue to threaten peace and security in the province, targeting civilians to spread fear and chaos.
