The Balochistan Assembly has unanimously passed a resolution strongly condemning the recent double honor killings in the Margat and Sinjidi Degari areas. The resolution was jointly presented by the Women’s Parliamentary Caucus, led by Deputy Speaker Ghazala Gola and other female members of the assembly.
The text of the resolution stated that the killing of innocent men and women in the name of honor is an inhumane, illegal, and unethical act that goes against all social norms and has no connection to religion, culture, or national traditions.
The assembly further emphasized that only the state has the authority to dispense justice—no individual, tribal leader, or jirga (tribal council) has the right to decide matters of life and death.
In response to the incident, the House urged the provincial government to ensure strict legal action against all individuals involved in the Margat killings so that such brutal acts can be prevented in the future.
During the session, several members expressed their outrage:
Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti assured the House that a full investigation will be conducted and announced the formation of a joint committee comprising government and opposition members to probe the matter.
Former Speaker of the Assembly Raheela Durrani said, “We often talk about honour, but fail to define it. No one has the right to brutally murder someone under its guise.”
The provincial minister for education called the incident “deeply tragic and utterly condemnable.”
MP Meena Majid voiced her concerns, saying, “Women in Balochistan are still being killed in the name of honor. Who gave the jirgas the power to decide punishments? All those involved—including tribal leaders—have been arrested, and no one will be spared.”
The advisor on sports also expressed grief, saying the government would take every possible action to ensure justice.
The recent honor killing of a couple in Sinjidi Degari have triggered widespread anger not just in Balochistan but across Pakistan. Civil society, political leaders, and the public at large are demanding swift justice and full enforcement of the law to prevent such heinous crimes from reoccurring.
