Balochistan declares Hinglaj Mata Temple a global tourism destination

The Government of Balochistan has officially announced plans to designate the historic Hinglaj Mata Temple, located in the scenic Hingol National Park, as a global religious tourism site. This initiative is part of a broader effort to promote faith-based tourism, enhance cultural inclusion, and position Pakistan as a premier destination for spiritual travel.

The historic announcement followed a high-level meeting between Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti and Senator Dinesh Kumar. During the meeting, the two leaders highlighted the potential of faith-based tourism for boosting local and national economies while fostering interfaith harmony.

The upgrade of the Hinglaj Mata Temple is seen as a step toward enhancing its infrastructure, improving visitor facilities, and driving sustainable tourism development.

The Hinglaj Mata Temple is one of South Asia’s most revered Hindu pilgrimage sites, attracting thousands of pilgrims and tourists annually from Pakistan and abroad. This new designation will not only highlight its cultural and religious significance but also focus on sustainable, eco-friendly tourism practices that align with the preservation of heritage and nature.

Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti noted, “Balochistan’s rich cultural and religious diversity is something we deeply value and take pride in. Recognizing Hinglaj Mata as a global religious site underscores this commitment while also contributing to economic growth through tourism.”

The provincial government has committed to allocating funds in the upcoming fiscal budget for the renovation of the site, enhanced security measures, and the development of world-class visitor facilities. The announcement also creates significant opportunities for investment across related sectors, including hospitality, travel, and tour operations.

Senator Dinesh Kumar hailed the decision as a landmark for religious harmony and interfaith empowerment, emphasizing its symbolic importance to the Hindu community. “This move not only demonstrates Pakistan’s respect for religious diversity but also shows the world its commitment to preserving and promoting historical and cultural landmarks of all communities,” Kumar stated.

Pakistan is integrating religious and cultural heritage into its national tourism policy to attract high-value international tourists while supporting local businesses. Elevating Hinglaj Mata Temple to an internationally recognized tourism site reflects the country’s growing focus on inclusivity and sustainable growth, paving the way for a stronger global reputation as a peaceful and welcoming destination for spiritual seekers.
