Justice Sarfraz Dogar, alongside three acting high court chief justices, was officially sworn in as a regular judge among the top judges on Tuesday. The ceremonies followed their appointments by President Asif Ali Zardari, based on recommendations from the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP).
President Zardari administered the oath of office to Islamabad High Court (IHC) Chief Justice Sarfraz Dogar during a ceremony at Aiwan-i-Sadr, Islamabad. Attendees included IHC judges, Senate Chairman Yousuf Raza Gilani, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, ministers, parliamentarians, and members of the legal fraternity.
This development occurred shortly after the Supreme Court upheld the constitutionality of transferring three judges from other provincial high courts to the IHC, with seniority determination referred to the president. Justice Dogar’s role as acting chief justice began following his promotion to senior puisne judge after Justice Aamer Farooq’s elevation to the Supreme Court earlier this year.
Similar oath-taking ceremonies were held in Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), and Balochistan. Justice Syed Muhammad Attique Shah was sworn in as Peshawar High Court (PHC) chief justice, Justice Rozi Khan Barrech became the top judge of Balochistan High Court (BHC), and Justice Junaid Ghaffar was appointed as chief justice of Sindh High Court (SHC). These appointments were formalized through separate ceremonies led by provincial governors and attended by senior officials, regional leaders, and legal professionals.
