A significant increase in hepatitis cases has been reported in Balochistan, with over 16,000 cases of hepatitis B and C recorded so far this year.
The number of patients in Balochistan is rising steadily, with several districts now labeled as “high-risk areas” due to their concerning situation. Health experts warn that it has become a major public health threat in the province.
In 2024, a total of 14,434 cases of Hepatitis B and C were reported in Balochistan. However, in just the first seven months of this year, more than 16,000 cases have already been recorded.
Five Types of Hepatitis: A, B, C, D, and E
According to medical experts, the major causes of the spread of Hepatitis B and C include the reuse of syringes, contaminated medical equipment, unsafe barber tools, and unregulated blood transfusions. In contrast, Hepatitis A and E primarily spread through drinking contaminated water or living in unhygienic conditions.
Health experts have expressed serious concerns over the rapid rise of cases in Balochistan. They emphasize the urgent need for effective measures to control the spread of the disease, particularly in remote and underdeveloped areas. Raising public awareness and ensuring access to basic diagnostic and treatment facilities are critical steps that must be taken immediately.
