Gwadar students in China under CPEC begin advanced technical training.
Under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), the first batch of Gwadar students from the University of Gwadar’s Technical and Vocational Institute has arrived in China for advanced technical education. The students will complete the remaining one and a half years of their three-year diploma program at the Shandong Institute of Commerce and Technology (SICT).
This milestone initiative represents a major step in Gwadar’s educational development, preparing its youth for a skilled and globally competitive future.
Strengthening education and skills through Pakistan-China cooperation
The program was launched under a 2023 agreement between the University of Gwadar, Gwadar Port Authority, China Overseas Ports Holding Company Limited (COPHCL), and SICT. The goal is to improve technical education, build human resource capacity, and create job opportunities for Balochistan’s youth under the CPEC framework.
All expenses — including tuition, accommodation, and travel — are fully funded by the University of Gwadar, Gwadar Port Authority, and COPHCL. This reflects the institutions’ shared commitment to empowering students through education and skills development.
Key leaders behind the CPEC education initiative
Former Gwadar Port Authority Chairman Pasand Khan Baledi and University Vice-Chancellor Dr. Abdul Razaq Sabir played pivotal roles in launching the project. The vision is now being carried forward by Chairman Noor-ul-Haq Baloch, along with officials from COPHCL and SICT.
Professor Dr. Manzoor Ahmed, Executive Director of the institute, also provided leadership to ensure smooth coordination and successful implementation of the program.
A proud moment for Gwadar and Balochistan
The arrival of Gwadar students in China under CPEC marks a proud step forward for Balochistan. It symbolizes cross-border educational cooperation, international exposure for local students, and a strong foundation for long-term economic progress in the region.
The program not only enhances Pakistan-China educational ties but also aligns with CPEC’s vision of promoting knowledge exchange and sustainable human development.
