Pakistan’s Gwadar Port Authority (GPA) and Chinese company Xinning Enterprise have signed a significant agreement to stimulate industrial and commercial investments at Gwadar Port , according to Pakistan’s maritime affairs ministry. Located along the Arabian Sea, Gwadar sits at the core of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which has seen substantial Chinese investment in Pakistan’s infrastructure, energy, and transport.

With its strategic location as the shortest trade route to the Gulf and Central Asia, Gwadar has the potential to become a key regional transshipment hub. This agreement, a Letter of Intent (LoI), signifies a major step forward in transforming the port into an economic powerhouse. It includes launching new industrial projects, optimizing existing facilities in the free zone, and relocating industries to further develop the port’s capacity.

Pakistan’s Maritime Affairs Minister described the partnership as a “milestone” for Gwadar’s growing role in regional trade and economic activity. The agreement underscores Xinning Enterprise’s ability to attract foreign investment, improve throughput at the port, and drive broader economic development in the region.

The Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to making Gwadar a global maritime gateway and a center for industrial activity, emphasizing that collaborations with experienced international enterprises are vital for achieving Pakistan’s economic goals.

Amid its economic recovery efforts, supported by a $7 billion IMF deal, Pakistan is focusing on leveraging Gwadar’s geostrategic importance to increase transit trade and foreign investment. This agreement aligns with Islamabad’s goal of achieving sustainable economic growth while positioning Gwadar as a vital hub in regional and global trade networks.
