One person was killed and five others were injured in a grenade attack near Chanik Chowk in Sibi district on Thursday evening, police confirmed.
According to officials, the incident occurred at around 7:05pm when unidentified assailants hurled a hand grenade into a busy area. Security forces and emergency responders rushed to the scene immediately after the blast.
Police said six injured individuals were shifted to hospital for medical treatment. One of the victims, however, succumbed to his injuries while being transported to the hospital.
Station House Officer (SHO) Sibi, Ghulam Ali Abro, said Edhi ambulances and law enforcement personnel reached the site soon after receiving information about the explosion. “All injured persons were shifted to hospital, but one could not survive,” he said.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Police Sibi Region, Barkat Khosa, stated that the injured were taken to the Teaching Hospital, while the body of the deceased was handed over to the family. He added that security in the area had been tightened and investigations were underway to trace those responsible.
Rising Attacks on Civilians
The attack comes amid a surge in violence targeting civilians in Balochistan. Last month, an eight-year-old child was killed and five members of a family, including two women, were injured when a grenade exploded inside a house in the Wadh area of Khuzdar district.
Police investigations later confirmed that the attack was carried out by the proscribed Baloch Liberation Army (BLA). At the time of the incident, two families from Kashmore district of Sindh were present in the house when militants threw a hand grenade into the courtyard.
Officials say banned militant organisations are increasingly targeting civilians, including women and children, in an effort to spread fear and instability across the province.
According to a Ministry of Interior report, at least 280 civilians were targeted by proscribed terrorist groups in Balochistan during 2025, highlighting the growing security challenges faced by the province.
