Green Pakistan Initiative Phase II: Rs3.2 Billion Interest-Free Loans Distributed to 847 Farmers in Balochistan
The Green Pakistan Initiative (GPI) has entered its second phase with the distribution of Rs3.2 billion in interest-free agricultural loans among 847 farmers across Balochistan, marking a major push to revive agriculture and bring barren land under cultivation.
A cheque distribution ceremony was held in Quetta, where Sarfraz Bugti attended as the chief guest. Senior military and civil officials were also present, highlighting strong civil-military coordination for agricultural development in the province.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti said that under Phase II of the Green Pakistan Initiative, interest-free loans are being provided for cultivation over 35,609 acres of land. He noted that access to easy financing without interest directly strengthens farmers and boosts agricultural output, which remains a backbone of Pakistan’s economy and exports.
“The Government of Balochistan is fully committed to the welfare of farmers and to ensuring sustainable economic growth through agriculture,” the chief minister said, adding that such initiatives would contribute to long-term food security and rural prosperity.
Addressing the ceremony, Lieutenant General Rahat Naseem Ahmad Khan termed the provision of interest-free loans on easy installments a farmer-friendly step. He said the initiative would help resolve long-standing financial challenges faced by local farmers, transform barren land into fertile fields, and pave the way for a new agricultural revolution in Pakistan.
Farmers welcomed the initiative, calling it a practical and timely intervention that would help increase productivity and reduce dependency on high-interest borrowing.
During the event, a documentary showcasing the achievements of the Green Pakistan Initiative was also screened. In Phase I, the program successfully provided Rs685 million in interest-free loans to 257 farmers under 12 Corps Headquarters. Building on that success, the initiative has now been significantly expanded in its second phase.
