United Nation Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has expressed regret over the recent devastating floods in Pakistan, which resulted in hundreds of deaths and affected approximately 1.5 million people.
According to the Secretary-General’s spokesperson Stephane Dujarric, these floods were caused by severe monsoon rains that were made more severe by climate change. This natural disaster damaged more than 3,000 homes, over 400 schools, and around 40 health centers, while millions of people need immediate humanitarian assistance.
The Secretary-General praised the Pakistani government’s relief efforts, particularly commending the evacuation of more than one million people to safe locations in Punjab.
Antonio Guterres expressed heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives, prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured, and reaffirmed solidarity with the government and people of Pakistan.
