Fire hits Kohlu forests, damaged wildlife and plantations
Fire hits Kohlu forests

A fire has once again struck the forests of Koh Jandran in Kohlu, causing extensive damage to the area’s wildlife and vegetation.

According to sources from the Forest Department, the fire has spread across a vast area in Pir Choti, a mountainous border range of Koh Jandran. For over thirty hours, Forest Department teams and local volunteers have been working tirelessly to control the blaze.

Despite their efforts, several challenges are slowing the rescue operations. A lack of proper equipment and manpower is making it difficult to contain the flames. Strong winds are further intensifying the fire, resulting in significant losses to forestland, herbs, and local wildlife.

The cause of the fire remains unclear as authorities continue their investigations. Alarmingly, this marks the second fire in the Koh Jandran forests within just a week, raising concerns about the region’s preparedness and the need to prevent further incidents.

In March 2024, a massive fire erupted in the Koh-e-Jandaran forest, rapidly spreading over several square kilometers. The blaze consumed hundreds of trees and rare shrubs, severely impacting the local flora and fauna. Efforts to control the fire were hampered by the challenging terrain and strong winds
