The Establishment Division has dispatched a new batch of Police Service of Pakistan (PSP) officers to Balochistan, replacing those who completed their one-year tenure under the federal government’s rotational policy.
According to two notifications issued on September 25, thirteen officers of the 47th Common Training Programme (CTP) have been relieved of duty and directed to return to their parent cadres, while seven officers of the 48th CTP will take charge in the province from October 8.
The policy was approved by the National Apex Committee on August 29, 2024, following a terrorist attack on the Jaffer Express. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who chaired the meeting alongside Army Chief Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, had directed that PSP and PAS officers of the 47th CTP and above be posted to Balochistan in phases.
In September 2024, 13 PSP officers were sent to the province for an active service period of 365 days. Their mandate was to strengthen policing and administration in view of renewed security threats. The urgency of the initiative grew further after another attack on the Jaffer Express in March 2025.
The Establishment Division said the new postings ensure continuity of the rotational scheme.
Separately, the federal government extended the tenure of 35 PSP officers from the 49th CTP, currently serving with the Federal Constabulary in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, for another year. The FC remains engaged in counter-insurgency operations across the province.
Under the rules, provincial governments may request extensions for individual officers, subject to consent and approval from the Establishment Division. Monthly reports on the utilisation of these officers are also mandatory.
