Security forces foiled a major terror attack near Pishin Stop in Quetta on Tuesday, killing at least eight terrorists, including a suicide bomber, in an intense exchange of fire. The attack left 10 civilians dead and 21 others injured, according to officials.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers attempted to target a civilian passenger bus carrying women and children in a “cowardly act of terrorism.” Security forces responded swiftly, intercepting the assailants before they could inflict mass casualties.
According to security sources, the militants—disguised in Frontier Corps (FC) uniforms—were driving an explosives-laden vehicle. In the retaliatory operation, all eight attackers were killed, while two FC personnel sustained injuries. The entire area was sealed off and a large-scale search operation is underway.
Balochistan Health Secretary Mujeebur Rehman confirmed that an emergency was declared in Civil Hospital Quetta, Bolan Medical College (BMC) Hospital, and the Trauma Centre. “All consultants, doctors, pharmacists, staff nurses, and paramedical staff have been directed to remain on duty,” he said.
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi praised the “bravery and timely action” of FC personnel. He stated that six militants, including a suicide bomber, were given “exemplary punishment,” foiling a planned massacre. “FC soldiers fought with courage against India-backed terrorists and eliminated them before they could achieve their nefarious designs,” Naqvi added.
Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti strongly condemned the attack, lauding the immediate and effective response of security forces. “Such cowardly acts cannot weaken the resolve of the nation. The sacrifices of our people and security institutions will not go in vain,” he said.
Rescue teams shifted the injured to hospitals where several remain in critical condition. Security has been heightened across Quetta as law enforcement agencies continue investigations.
