Security forces in Balochistan after targeted killings and attacks in Kech, Jhal Magsi, and Kharan

Eight people, including a university lecturer, were killed in targeted attacks and a tribal clash in Kech, Jhal Magsi, and Kharan districts of Balochistan. Authorities have launched investigations.

At least eight people, including a university lecturer, were killed in a series of targeted shootings and a tribal clash across different districts of Balochistan, while four others were injured, according to police and local officials.

The incidents occurred in Kech, Jhal Magsi, and Kharan districts, highlighting ongoing security and tribal tensions in the province.

Three Killed in Kech Firing Incidents

In Kech district, three separate firing incidents claimed the lives of three individuals in the areas of Konshkalat Tump, Dhank, and Shapak.

According to police officials, armed assailants belonging to the banned Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) opened fire at a shop in Shapak, killing Muhammad Jan, Sanaullah, and Hatim.

Police shifted the bodies to a nearby hospital for postmortem examination before handing them over to the families after completing legal formalities.

Authorities confirmed that cases have been registered, and investigations into all three incidents are currently underway.

Tribal Clash in Jhal Magsi Leaves Three Dead

In Jhal Magsi district, a violent clash between two groups of the Khosa tribe left three people dead in Goth Daro Khosa, located in Union Council Panjak.

The deceased were identified as:

  • Abdul Haq Khosa

  • Ali Muhammad Khosa

  • Qale Bakhsh Khosa

Police officials stated that the confrontation was the result of a long-standing tribal feud between the two groups.

Authorities are investigating the incident while efforts are being made to prevent further escalation between the rival groups.

University Lecturer Killed in Kharan Attack

In another incident, suspected militants from the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) opened fire outside the Sub-Campus of the University of Balochistan in Kharan, killing a university lecturer on the spot.

The victim, Dilawar Khan, son of Lal Bakhsh and a resident of Nodz, Turbat, was serving as a lecturer at the university’s Kharan sub-campus.

The attack occurred on the morning of March 4, 2026, when Dilawar Khan and his colleague Bilal Ahmed, son of Ghulam Jan and a resident of Panjgur, were targeted by armed assailants outside the campus.

Dilawar Khan died instantly in the attack, while Bilal Ahmed sustained serious injuries.

He was initially shifted to Sheikh Zaid Hospital in Kharan and later transferred to Quetta due to his critical condition.

Pattern of Attacks on Intellectuals

Initial reports suggest that Dilawar Khan may have been specifically targeted, raising concerns about a pattern of attacks against Baloch intellectuals and government officials.

Security analysts note that similar attacks have occurred in recent years.

On May 30, 2025, Hidayatullah Buledi, a LUMS alumnus (BSc 2015) and Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Revenue of Surab, was killed in a terrorist attack attributed to the Baloch Liberation Army while defending civilians.

Earlier, in 2022, former Balochistan High Court Chief Justice Muhammad Noor Meskanzai was also fatally shot outside a mosque in Kharan, in an attack claimed by the same militant group.

Authorities say investigations into the latest attacks are ongoing as security forces continue efforts to counter militant violence in the province.
