The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) has approved several major development projects for Balochistan, with a special emphasis on improving the education sector and infrastructure in the province.
According to officials, the Ecnec meeting — chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar via video link — was attended by Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal and other senior members of the committee. Balochistan was represented by Senior Irrigation Minister Mir Sadiq Umrani, along with top provincial officials.
The meeting reviewed progress reports, expenditures, and challenges related to various ongoing and new federal development projects across the country, particularly in Balochistan.
Focus on Education Reform
Officials said the committee placed special focus on the “Access and Delivery of Quality Education” project, designed to enhance both education standards and accessibility in Balochistan.
The five-year initiative comprises four core components: early childhood education, primary education, public-private partnerships, and emergency education services.
“The project will significantly expand learning opportunities for children in Balochistan, improve access to quality education, and help raise literacy levels across the province,” the officials briefed.
Infrastructure and Livelihood Projects Approved
In addition to education reforms, Ecnec also approved several major infrastructure and livelihood projects for Balochistan. These include:
-
Construction of the 103-kilometre Zhob–Mehktar–Margha Kabzai Road
-
Construction of the 105-kilometre Duki–Chamalang Road
-
Revised Balochistan Livelihood and Internship Project
The committee underscored the importance of timely completion and directed relevant departments to ensure quality and transparency throughout the implementation process.
