DSP Murid Bugti embraced martyrdom after BLA terrorists attacked his police vehicle in Barkhan's Rakhni area, prompting a large-scale security operation.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mureed Bugti was martyred after terrorists belonging to the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) opened fire on his official police vehicle in the Rakhni area of Barkhan district on Tuesday evening.

According to police, the attack occurred at Khatta Chowki while DSP Mureed Bugti was patrolling the area. Armed terrorists ambushed the police vehicle with indiscriminate gunfire, critically injuring the senior police officer. He later embraced martyrdom, while one police constable sustained injuries in the attack.

Barkhan Superintendent of Police Abdul Haq confirmed that BLA terrorists targeted the police vehicle during routine patrol duties. Soon after the attack, a heavy contingent of the police, Frontier Corps (FC), Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), and other security agencies reached the area and launched a large-scale search operation to track down the fleeing attackers.

Balochistan Government spokesperson and Adviser to the Chief Minister on Information and Political Affairs, Shahid Rind, condemned the attack and said security forces had completely cordoned off the area. He added that additional personnel had been deployed to strengthen the ongoing operation against the terrorists.

“The terrorists responsible for this cowardly attack will be pursued and brought to justice. Operations against enemies of the state will continue without discrimination until terrorism is eliminated,” Shahid Rind said.

He reiterated the provincial government’s commitment to using all available resources to eradicate terrorism and maintain peace across Balochistan.

A Career Defined by Courage

DSP Mureed Bugti, a resident of Sui, was serving as the DSP in Barkhan district and was widely regarded as a fearless and dedicated police officer. Throughout his career, he remained on the frontlines of counter-terrorism operations in one of Balochistan’s most challenging districts.

His sacrifice reflects a lifetime of service to the country. The martyred officer leaves behind two widows and twelve children.

His family had already suffered the pain of terrorism in the past when two of his daughters were martyred in a terrorist attack at his residence in Jaffarabad, making his family’s sacrifices for Pakistan exceptionally profound.

Colleagues and local residents described DSP Mureed Bugti as a symbol of courage, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to maintaining peace in Barkhan despite persistent terrorist threats.

Search Operation Underway

Following the attack, security forces launched a coordinated search and clearance operation across the surrounding areas to apprehend the terrorists involved. Authorities said intelligence-based efforts were continuing, and further reinforcements had been deployed to ensure the attackers could not escape.

The attack highlights the continued threat posed by terrorist groups operating in parts of Balochistan, where security forces and law enforcement personnel remain engaged in ongoing counter-terrorism operations aimed at restoring lasting peace.
