Gwadar International Airport completes its first evacuation drill

The New Gwadar International Airport has taken a significant step toward ensuring passenger and staff safety by completing its first emergency evacuation drill. The aim was to evaluate and enhance the airport’s responsiveness in emergency situations.

Key Highlights of the Drill:

  • The drill took place in the airport’s departure lounge.
  •  It was led by the Chief Fire & Rescue Officer (CFRO), who provided a comprehensive briefing on emergency protocols and procedures.
  • Representatives from the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA), Airport Security Force, airlines, and ground handling agencies actively participated.
  • The exercise focused on practical evacuation techniques, effective communication strategies, and seamless coordination between various teams.

The Chief Fire & Rescue Officer emphasized that “Safety is our top priority at New Gwadar International Airport.”

The New Gwadar International Airport officially opened on January 20, marking a significant milestone in Balochistan’s infrastructure development, according to a statement from the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA).

The inaugural commercial flight, operated by Pakistan International Airlines, landed at 11:14 AM local time, marking the commencement of operations. This momentous occasion was graced by the presence of Federal Minister for Defense, Defense Production, and Aviation Khawaja Muhammad Asif, as well as Chief Minister of Balochistan Sarfaraz Bugti, in addition to senior government and PCAA officials.Furthermore, the event symbolized a significant milestone in the region’s aviation history, highlighting the collaborative efforts of all stakeholders involved.

According to Flightconnections.com, around 10 international operators provide a connecting flight facility to international passengers for New Gawdar Airport. This adds more traffic to this newly built airport. According to an estimate presented before the Prime Minister, nearly 4 million passengers will commute annually from and away to this new airport.
