Pakistan and the Federated States of Micronesia have officially established diplomatic relations at UN ceremoy. The agreement was signed on Thursday during a ceremony held at Pakistan’s Mission to the United Nations in New York.
The agreement was formalized by Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, and Ambassador Jeem S. Lippwe, Micronesia’s UN Representative. Other senior diplomats, including Usman Jadoon, Pakistan’s Deputy Permanent Representative, were also present.

Speaking at the event, Ambassador Ahmad said he was happy that the diplomatic ties were being established on Pakistan’s Independence Day, making the moment even more special. He said the new relationship would create opportunities for cooperation in human resource development, capacity building, and climate change. He also highlighted that both countries will work together at the UN to promote peace and security.
Ambassador Ahmad also shared that Pakistan is the 100th country with which Micronesia has established diplomatic relations.
In his speech, Ambassador Lippwe said he was honored to represent Micronesia at the beginning of this new friendship. He thanked Pakistan for its support in helping his country open UN offices and said he looks forward to working closely with the Pakistani mission. He also congratulated Pakistan on its Independence Day.
Before the signing ceremony, the two ambassadors held a brief meeting and discussed potential areas of cooperation, both at the bilateral level and within the United Nations.
