An official of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Kachhi District was shot dead by unidentified armed men in Dhadar on Saturday, police said.
According to officials, Babu Nisar Ahmed Hambi was passing through Rind Ali Bazaar when assailants opened fire on him, killing him on the spot. The attackers fled immediately after the shooting.
Police reached the scene soon after receiving information and shifted the body to the district hospital. Doctors said the victim had sustained multiple bullet wounds. Police confirmed that Mr Hambi was employed at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Kachhi.
The motive behind the killing could not be immediately ascertained. However, investigators said the attack may be linked to a banned militant outfit, though no claim of responsibility had been made till the filing of this report. A case has been registered and further investigation is underway. No arrests have been made so far.
Pattern of violence in the region
The killing comes amid a series of violent incidents reported in parts of Balochistan over the past year. In November last year, two excavator drivers — Ashiq Ali Muhammad Hassani and Shakeel Ahmed Korai — were abducted near Notal Police Station in Dera Murad Jamali, reportedly by armed men linked to a banned outfit.
In another incident, near Dalbandin in Chagai District, prominent tribal leader Sardar Hussain was shot dead. Authorities had attributed the attack to militants associated with the Baloch Liberation Army.
Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement agencies as investigations into these incidents continue. Security has also been stepped up in sensitive areas of Kachhi and neighbouring districts.
