On September 6, Pakistan marks Defense Day, a day to honor and remember the sacrifices of our brave soldiers and officers who have given their lives to safeguard the sovereignty of Pakistan. As we reflect on this day, we pay homage to those fallen heroes who laid down their lives in defense of Balochistan, our beloved province that has faced countless challenges and trials over the years.
These are the brave souls, who in different times, across different eras, sacrificed everything for the security of our borders and the peace of our people. Today, we salute them with utmost respect and admiration.
1. Samiyullah Shaheed – A Protector of Peace in Balochistan
Samiyullah Shaheed, a proud member of the Balochistan Constabulary and a resident of Isa Nagri, Quetta, made the ultimate sacrifice on March 6, 2023. After completing his duty at the Sibi Mela, Samiyullah, along with his colleagues, was returning to Quetta when a suicide bomber targeted their vehicle near Dhadar. The deadly attack resulted in the martyrdom of Samiyullah and 8 of his comrades. Their sacrifice serves as a reminder of the ever-present dangers faced by our security forces, and their courage will forever be etched in our hearts.
2. Lieutenant Masood-ur-Rehman – A Hero of the Battlefield
Lieutenant Masood-ur-Rehman was martyred on September 9, 2004, during Pakistan Army’s Operation Al-Mizan in the Wana region of South Waziristan. As a member of the 54 Baloch Regiment, he fought valiantly against terrorists. He is remembered as the first martyr from the land of Qalat and his sacrifice remains a shining example of selfless service to the nation. His courage in battle and unwavering commitment to his country continue to inspire future generations of soldiers.
3. Pahi Muhammad Shoaib Shaheed – A Defender of Customs and National Security
Pahi Muhammad Shoaib Shaheed joined Pakistan Customs Service on May 31, 2016, and swiftly earned a reputation for his courage and dedication. On October 24, 2016, while on patrol duty in Shamsabad, Mastung, his team was ambushed by terrorists, resulting in his martyrdom. His sacrifice highlights the critical role played by Pakistan Customs in combating smuggling and protecting the integrity of our nation’s borders. He is remembered as a fearless officer who stood on the frontlines of national security.
4. Constables Kamran and Amir Nawaz – Warriors Against Narcotics
Constables Muhammad Kamran and Amir Nawaz, both of the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF), laid down their lives on July 17, 2020, in Dalbandin while fighting against the drug trade. They are remembered for their bravery in protecting Balochistan and the entire nation from the destructive force of narcotics. Their sacrifice has paved the way for safer communities and reminds us of the important role of law enforcement in maintaining peace and security.
5. Captain Ali – A Defender of the Homeland on Defense Day
Captain Muhammad Ali Qureshi was martyred on August 26 in Bela, Balochistan, while combating terrorists. His bravery and determination to protect his country serve as an inspiration, especially on Defense Day, a day that commemorates the sacrifices of all soldiers. Captain Ali’s selfless sacrifice and his devotion to his country continue to symbolize the unwavering resolve of our security forces in defending Pakistan’s sovereignty.
6. Martyrs of Frontier Corps Balochistan – Guardians of Peace
The Frontier Corps (FC) Balochistan has played a pivotal role in securing the region from external and internal threats. The sacrifices made by these brave men in the face of terrorism and instability are immeasurable. From counter-terrorism operations to maintaining peace in volatile areas, the FC Balochistan has proven time and again that they are the unsung heroes of Balochistan’s security. Their martyrs are a testament to the sacrifices made to bring peace and order to the province.
7. DSP Ajmal Nadeem Sadozi – A Police Officer’s Ultimate Sacrifice
DSP Ajmal Nadeem Sadozi, a courageous police officer, was martyred on March 2, 2022, when a bomb exploded during his investigation at the scene of a targeted killing on Fatima Jinnah Road, Quetta. He was known for his unwavering dedication to duty and his bravery in tackling crime. His martyrdom not only highlights the dangers faced by our police officers but also inspires others, including his daughter, Zahra Khan, who became the first lady police officer in her family, pledging to continue her father’s legacy of service and sacrifice.

On this Defense Day, we stand united in remembering these brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for the safety and security of Balochistan and Pakistan. Their courage and devotion to duty remind us of the values we hold dear: patriotism, sacrifice, and the unbreakable bond we share as a nation.
