The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of Balochistan Police successfully thwarted a major terror plot in Quetta on Saturday. Acting on confirmed intelligence, CTD officers conducted an operation near the Radio Pakistan Tower on Sariab Road, recovering a large stockpile of explosives, weapons, and ammunition.
During the intelligence-led operation, officials found a 20kg improvised explosive device (IED) equipped with a remote detonation mechanism and 50kg of high-grade explosives buried underground. The team also seized five hand grenades and three 9mm pistols with live ammunition. All items were secured without any incidents or injuries.
“A swift and coordinated operation was launched to prevent a potential attack on critical infrastructure,” a CTD spokesperson confirmed. The operation was supported by the Bomb Disposal Unit, which ensured all explosives were safely handled.
No suspects were present at the site, and no arrests were made. However, a First Information Report (FIR) has been filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act at CTD Police Station Quetta. Authorities have initiated forensic analysis of the recovered materials and are pursuing intelligence-based follow-up actions to identify those behind the foiled sabotage attempt.
