
At least 51 coal miners have lost their lives in accidents across Balochistan’s, during the past eight months, according to data released by the provincial Department of Minerals.
The report also revealed that 30 miners sustained injuries in various incidents during the same period.
The districts of Duki and Harnai recorded the highest number of mining accidents this year, raising serious concerns about safety conditions in the region’s coal mining industry.

In response to the alarming figures, the Mines Labour Federation has called on the government to take urgent steps to improve safety measures and enforcement of regulations in coal mines across the province.
The federation stressed that the lives of workers cannot be compromised and emphasized the need for strict oversight, modern safety equipment, and training programs to prevent further loss of life.
Balochistan’s coal mining sector, while a key contributor to the province’s economy, has long faced criticism for outdated practices, lack of safety protocols, and inadequate emergency response systems.
