From nearly 70 participants across China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, Aidah’s presentation titled “Assessment of the Fish Stock Status of the Spangled Emperor (Lethrinus nebulosus) Along the Coast of Balochistan, Pakistan” stood out, earning her one of nine oral presentation awards presented at the event.
“This award is a dream come true and a testament to the exceptional research environment available here in China,” said Aidah, reflecting on her experience. “The facilities and mentorship I’ve accessed as an international student have significantly enhanced my research capabilities. The summer school has further expanded my understanding of cutting-edge marine conservation techniques.”
The rigorous 10-day program offered participants lectures, workshops, and hands-on learning opportunities in global climate change, marine ecotoxicology, sustainability, and innovative technologies. A standout activity included a field trip to the Taiwan Straits Marine Ecosystem National Observation Station, where participants explored mangrove ecosystems and advanced observation techniques.
Aidah emphasized the relevance of her research to Balochistan’s coastal communities, whose livelihoods depend on sustainable fishery practices. “The methodologies I’ve learned here, in ecosystem monitoring and sustainable resource management, will be invaluable when I return to Pakistan,” she shared. “These tools and perspectives empower me to contribute practical solutions to ocean health challenges in my home region.”
With initiatives like these summer schools, universities continue encouraging young researchers to pursue excellence, equipping them with the skills and knowledge to create solutions for global environmental challenges.
