Climate change is a long-term change in the weather; it occurs when gases like carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide accumulate on the earth’s surface.
These gases are responsible for absorbing sunlight, so the more the greenhouse gases, the more sun rays are absorbed. And increased sun rays reaching the earth cause several catastrophic situations, like floods, disasters, etc.
Such catastrophic situations have been at their peak in Pakistan, resulting in destruction , loss of lives, and affecting the livelihood of the people.
Climate change is a global issue; it needs initiatives, otherwise the earth might drown under water. Woefully, Pakistan has dwindled in making climate-related policies and properly implementing them.
Pakistan has made some policies, like “the Ministry of Climate Change, the Punjab Climate Change Strategy, and so on. But it has only dwelled on these policies but never on implementation. Unfortunately, these policies and their proper implementation still need improvement. I believe such policies related to a global problem need to be enhanced; otherwise, they might worsen the situation.
The recent situation of the alarming flood, soil erosion, deforestation, harvesting, and agricultural loss has been the direct consequence of climate change that affected plenty of regions in Balochistan, Pakistan.
The aftermath of those years of catastrophic floods is still visible, as the symptoms of the destruction are at their peak. People still lack the basic facilities, roads are demolished, and the affected families are surviving on pennies; they neither have well-constructed houses nor do they have a proper meal. And when it rains again, the only thought that concerns them is whether or not their house made of a few bricks and torn clothes would survive or not.
If I ever get the capabilities and a platform to make a policy, it would likely be related to climate change. Because I have experienced the vulnerable situation of the impoverished people. They lack food, shelter, and clothes, which are the basic necessities to sustain life. I would like to create funds for those affected and provide them with the basic necessities to enjoy life.
My contribution for amending the policy or bringing an amendment would be prioritizing the affected people. Strictly following the rules of policy, like in the case of a situation of flood, the rescue team should assist and provide the essential commodities.
The recent incident in Swat, where a family of 18 members was swept away by the floodwater, was heartbreaking woefully because the rescue team did not arrive on time, resulting in the deaths of every one of them. The failure of the rescue team to arrive on time was an imperative cause of these casualties; hence, a proper training of rescue teams is vital too.
Such incidents related to climate are usual because we are more concerned over the outer threats than what has intense capabilities of destruction. Climate change can dismantle the nation gradually if it has been ignored. Because we have already seen its intense impacts, it had by either eradicating a complete population or leaving them on an edge of life and death. Therefore, such an inevitable issue should be given the foremost priority and should be solved. As far as my knowledge is concerned.
I would like it to be more functional to reduce the suffering. Being a human being and usually active on current affairs, I have experienced the unfortunate disasters occurring worldwide. Concerning Pakistan, it has more threat towards climate change than from any outer attacks from an enemy state.
So it’s equally important to save Pakistan from the threats of climate change as it is to protect it from other enemy states. So we should play our roles by planting more trees and reducing the use of things that release the greenhouse gases. By taking small steps, we can bring a huge difference in controlling climate change.
