DG ISPR warns of ‘swift response’ if India breaks ceasefire

Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, issued a stern warning to India during an interview with an International media. He stated that any violation of the ceasefire would prompt a “swift and assured” response from Pakistan, emphasizing that such escalations could lead to mutually assured destruction.

The latest tensions unfolded after India’s accusations against Pakistan regarding the Pahalgam attack, prompting retaliatory airstrikes targeting Pakistani territory. This conflict resulted in civilian casualties and a series of exchanges between the two nations. It was only through U.S. mediation that both sides agreed to a ceasefire, which U.S. President Donald Trump announced on May 10. The hostilities caused the loss of 40 civilian lives, with over 120 injuries reported.

Lt Gen Chaudhry reminded the international audience of the grave risks posed by indiscriminate escalations involving nuclear-armed neighbors. He further criticized India for deploying troops and implementing policies in Kashmir, asserting that United Nations Security Council resolutions and the will of the Kashmiri people should resolve the issue.

Highlighting the doctrine of mutually assured destruction, he underscored that a significant escalation would spell disaster for both nations, impacting over 1.6 billion lives. Citing recent events, he reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to safeguarding its sovereignty and warned that any threat to territorial integrity would be met with a resolute and forceful response.
