“Federal cabinet approves Gwadar–Oman Ferry Service, a major step to improve trade, investment, and travel for Balochistan and Pakistan.”

The federal cabinet has approved the Gwadar–Oman Ferry Service, a landmark initiative aimed at strengthening Balochistan’s maritime connectivity with the Gulf region. The new ferry route is expected to boost trade, attract investment, and provide a convenient and cost-effective travel option for Pakistani expatriates living in Oman and other Gulf countries.

The federal cabinet has approved the Gwadar–Oman Ferry Service, marking a major milestone for Balochistan’s maritime connectivity and trade links with the Gulf region.

Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry confirmed that the Gwadar–Oman Ferry Service will commence soon after Pakistan and Oman sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU). An Omani delegation is expected to visit Pakistan shortly to finalize all operational and technical arrangements.

The new ferry service is expected to boost Gwadar’s strategic importance, attract fresh investment, increase trade volume, and provide a convenient travel option for Pakistani expatriates in Oman and other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.

Trade, Investment, and Expatriates Benefit

Chaudhry said the Gwadar–Oman Ferry Service will stimulate economic activity by improving logistics and reducing travel times. The ferry will also offer a cost-effective travel option for Pakistanis in the Gulf, while strengthening people-to-people connectivity.

Gateway to Central Asia

The federal minister noted that the Gwadar–Oman Ferry Service will enhance access to Central Asian markets, aligning with Pakistan’s broader strategy to develop Gwadar as a major regional trade hub.

The initiative complements plans announced on July 1 to expand Gwadar Port’s operational capacity by introducing new shipping lines and ferry services connecting Pakistan with GCC countries.

Balochistan Government Welcomes the Initiative

Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti praised the cabinet’s approval of the Gwadar–Oman Ferry Service, saying it will facilitate pilgrims and ease travel for local communities. He added that five private companies have already submitted proposals to operate the ferry, highlighting strong commercial interest.
