The sudden suspension of Quetta’s Green Bus Service has left countless residents struggling to find affordable transportation. Despite the overwhelming public reliance on the service, no official statement has been provided by the provincial government regarding its abrupt discontinuation.
For over a year, the Green Bus had been a dependable option for middle- and lower-income earners, including office workers, students, and laborers. Its affordability, cleanliness, and reliability made it a staple in daily commuting for thousands. Now, its absence is forcing many to rely on expensive alternatives like taxis and rickshaws, increasing the already heavy financial burden on families.

Local residents are frustrated by the sudden halt, speculating possible security concerns as the reason behind the decision. However, the lack of transparency from officials has added to the outrage.
Stories from regular users highlight the daily hardships caused by this suspension. Abid Khan, a garment worker, explained, “This bus was my only way to get to work without spending most of my earnings on transportation.” Similarly, Gul Bano, a schoolteacher, shared, “It was clean, affordable, and safe. Now, I have to walk long distances to reach work.”
For university student Saeed Ahmad, the disruption is even more severe. “I can’t afford rickshaw fares daily. The Green Bus was our lifeline,” he said.
Without clear communication or viable alternatives, Quetta’s residents await an explanation and, hopefully, a resolution from the provincial authorities.
