Bolan University of Medical and Health Sciences (BUMHS) has achieved a landmark milestone with the official launch of the Bolan Journal of Medical and Allied Health Sciences, the first dedicated medical research journal in Balochistan.
The newly launched journal aims to promote high-quality medical research, strengthen evidence-based healthcare, and foster a robust research culture across the province.
Medical Research a Core Priority at BUMHS
Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Shabbir Ahmed Lehri said that medical research remains a central pillar of BUMHS’s academic vision and is essential for improving healthcare delivery in Balochistan.
He noted that despite being a relatively young institution, BUMHS has made significant progress in its Higher Education Commission (HEC) ranking and continues to register achievements in academic excellence, research output, and institutional governance.
Platform for Young Researchers and Scientific Excellence
The ceremony was formally inaugurated by Professor Dr. Rauf Shah. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Aslam Buzdar, Editor of the journal, said the publication would serve as a credible platform for nurturing young researchers, guiding early-career scientists, and encouraging ethical, high-impact scientific inquiry in Balochistan.
Dr. Buzdar highlighted that between 2023 and 2025, BUMHS successfully conducted the Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) across the province in a transparent and efficient manner.
Standardized Admissions and Academic Reforms
For the first time, BUMHS also organized the Nursing College Admission Test (NCAT) for 13 public-sector nursing colleges, marking a major step toward a standardized and merit-based admissions system in the healthcare sector.
To further strengthen research capacity, the university has established Ethical Review Boards, launched its medical research journal, and hosted multiple national and international conferences to enhance academic collaboration and global engagement.
Infrastructure Development and Institutional Growth
On the administrative and infrastructure front, BUMHS has undertaken major reforms, including the relocation of its city campus, establishment of a university library, and the commencement of construction work on the main campus.
The university has also introduced new academic programs, conducted examinations for over 5,300 students, and organized professional development initiatives for faculty and staff.
Public Health Outreach and Global Partnerships
In addition to academic progress, BUMHS has launched health awareness campaigns and school health programs in collaboration with UNICEF, while maintaining close coordination with all relevant regulatory and accreditation bodies.

The launch of the Bolan Journal of Medical and Allied Health Sciences is being widely hailed as a historic development for Balochistan, expected to elevate medical research standards, improve academic credibility, and contribute to the growth of a modern, evidence-based healthcare system in the province.
