Pakistan shuts down border crossings with Iran in Balochistan

The Pakistan-Iran border remains open and fully regulated, contrary to earlier reports of closures in Gwadar and Panjgur districts.

According to immigration officials, 160 Pakistanis have returned from Iran via the Taftan border. The individuals include pilgrims, traders, and others, with 152 students studying in Iran expected to be repatriated through the same border later today.

Extraordinary security measures have been implemented at the Taftan border due to the ongoing Iran-Israel conflict. Immigration officials have suspended travel from Pakistan to Iran; only those returning from Iran to Pakistan are currently allowed to cross.

The repatriation process is ongoing, with 160 passengers arriving from Iran transported into Pakistan on four buses. Additionally, over 50 students studying in Iran have already reached the border, officials confirmed.

The Foreign Minister stated that the Pakistani Embassy in Iraq is closely coordinating with stranded Zaireen affected by airspace closures, ensuring their safe stay and planning possible evacuations. Additionally, the Crisis Management Unit at the Foreign Office is operational 24/7 and can be contacted via +92 51-9207887 or cmu1@mofa.gov.pk for assistance.

Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety of Pakistani nationals and Zaireen in affected areas while closely monitoring the situation.
