The ninth edition of the Gwadar Book Fair, organized by the RCD Council, wrapped up on Monday with remarkable success, achieving book sales totaling over Rs2.8 million.
The four-day event concluded with a grand ceremony featuring notable attendees, including MPA Maulana Hidayatur Rehman, Fisheries Secretary Anwar Shafqat Shahwani, environmental social worker Safina Faraz, and RCD Council’s patron-in-chief Khuda Bakhsh Hashim, alongside president Nasir Rahim Sohrabi.

This year’s theme was climate change, addressing a critical global issue impacting the region of Gwadar.
During his speech, Mr. Nasir Rahim Sohrabi highlighted the enduring importance of books and knowledge. “No matter how far the world progresses, humanity will always rely on three pillars: the pen, the book, and knowledge,” he stated. He also emphasized the significance of events like this in reshaping narratives about the Baloch people, shedding light on Gwadar as a land of avid readers, rather than the stereotypes often associated with the region.
The fair featured 29 book stalls, including 11 dedicated to books in the Balochi language. Impressively, these Balochi stalls alone recorded sales of Rs1.086 million. Overall, the event not only showcased Gwadar’s deep-rooted love for literature but also underscored the vital role books continue to play in enriching lives and fostering discourse on pressing issues like climate change.
