In a groundbreaking step toward improving access to education, the Government of Balochistan, in collaboration with UNICEF, has launched innovative mobile learning initiatives — the Book Van and Science Ride — to reach children in remote and underserved villages.
These projects are transforming how education is delivered in rural areas by bringing books, science tools, and interactive learning experiences directly to students’ doorsteps.
Expanding Access to Education in 14 Districts
Currently, the Book Van project is operating across 14 districts, including Zhob, Qila Saifullah, Loralai, Pishin, Chaman, Quetta, Lasbela, Hub, Gwadar, Jaffarabad, Kachhi, Kech, Jhal Magsi, and Nushki. Meanwhile, the Science Ride, a mobile science lab, is actively serving students in Jaffarabad district.
Originally introduced as mobile schools, these units have evolved into:
- Moving libraries
- Mobile teaching centers
- Science learning labs
This evolution has significantly boosted student engagement and curiosity, especially in areas with limited educational infrastructure.
Promoting Scientific Thinking Through Mobile Labs
The Science Ride is playing a crucial role in fostering scientific thinking and creativity among students. By providing hands-on experiments and interactive demonstrations, it encourages children to explore, question, and understand the world around them.
In regions where access to science labs is scarce, this initiative is helping bridge a major educational gap.

Students across Balochistan have warmly welcomed the initiative. Many expressed excitement about having access to a variety of books and learning materials.
One student, Zainab Shambay, shared that the Book Van allowed them to explore different subjects and purchase books that were previously unavailable in their area. She also emphasized the need to expand such programs to more districts.
Another student highlighted the importance of reading, stating that books are essential for gaining knowledge and achieving success.
Government Support and Vision
Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti praised the initiative, calling it a powerful step toward building a brighter and more educated future for the province.
He emphasized that such creative and impactful programs are key to empowering youth and improving literacy in underserved communities.
