The body of Aryan Shah, a 23-year-old resident of Quetta who passed away last week in Chennai, India, during cancer treatment, was finally brought to Karachi on Wednesday after a delay caused by an airline error.
Aryan had been undergoing treatment in Chennai for several months but succumbed to the illness last week. He had traveled to India with his parents in search of advanced medical care.

Following his death, Aryan’s mother sought financial assistance from Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti to cover repatriation costs, as the family was unable to afford them. Responding promptly, Chief Minister Bugti provided the necessary support and coordinated with the Pakistani ambassador in India through the Foreign Office to facilitate the body’s transfer.
The family traveled with the coffin via an international airline but faced a heartbreaking setback when they discovered upon arrival in Karachi that the body had mistakenly been left in Colombo.
“I have now received the body of my son from Colombo,” Aryan’s mother said. She also noted that neither the Indian government nor the hospital provided assistance with transferring the body.
Pakistani authorities intervened and contacted the airline, which ensured the body was flown from Colombo to Karachi, where it arrived on Wednesday.
Officials in Quetta confirmed that the family arranged for an ambulance to transport Aryan’s body to Quetta. They departed Karachi late Wednesday evening and are expected to arrive in Quetta early Thursday morning.
