Plastic containers filled with explosives recovered during intelligence operation as BLA terror plot foiled in Karachi
More than 60 plastic containers filled with explosives recovered from a BLA safe house in Karachi during an intelligence-based operation.

A major BLA terror plot was foiled in Karachi after intelligence agencies intercepted a large cache of explosives and dismantled a militant network preparing attacks on civilian targets. More than 2,000 kilograms of explosive material were seized and three terrorists linked to the Bashir Zeb group were arrested during a coordinated intelligence-based operation.

Law enforcement agencies said the plot, which was aimed at targeting civilian areas in Karachi, could have caused mass casualties if not intercepted in time.

Intelligence Breakthrough and Joint Operation

Addressing a press conference in Karachi, CTD Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Ghulam Azfar Mahesar, alongside CTD Additional Inspector General (IG) Zulfiqar Ali Larik, said that law enforcement agencies, in coordination with the premier intelligence agency, received actionable intelligence regarding a planned terrorist attack on the city.

According to DIG Mahesar, the intelligence indicated that BLA militants had rented a house several kilometers outside Karachi where they had begun preparing and stockpiling explosive material for coordinated attacks aimed at destabilising national security.

Following the intelligence input, a joint strategy was developed involving intelligence agencies, Special Branch, CTD Sindh, and law enforcement units from Balochistan. Surveillance was intensified, and personnel were deployed at multiple strategic locations to track the network.

Safe House Traced in Raees Goth

After days of intelligence-led monitoring, law enforcement agencies successfully traced a terrorist safe house in Raees Goth, Karachi. During the initial raid, one terrorist was arrested, later identified as a member of the Fitna-e-Hindustan, proscribed BLA Bashir Zeb group.

A search of the premises led to the recovery of a prepared vehicle and a massive cache of explosives.

Over 2,000kg Explosives Recovered

Officials said the recovered material included:

  • More than 2,000 kilograms of high-intensity explosive material

  • A vehicle loaded with over 60 plastic drums filled with explosives

  • Five LPG cylinders packed with explosive material

  • Various detonators and triggering devices

The scale and nature of the explosives indicated preparations for large-scale urban terrorism, officials said.

Further Arrests and Bomb Disposal Operation

Based on information obtained from the arrested suspect, raids were conducted at multiple locations, resulting in the arrest of two additional terrorists. The suspects were identified as Jaleel Ahmed alias Fareed, Niaz Qadir alias Kinak, and Hamdan alias Fareed.

The Bomb Disposal Unit (BDU) was deployed to the site, where the explosive material was safely neutralised to prevent any accidental detonation.

Investigators revealed that the explosives were transported from Afghanistan to Balochistan and then smuggled into Karachi, highlighting a cross-border supply chain.

Links to BLA, Majid Brigade, and Foreign Handling

DIG CTD said the arrested militants confessed to their association with Commander Bashir and the Majid Brigade of Fitna-e-Hindustan. The terror plot was planned by the BLA network led by Bashir Zeb.

Authorities have identified several facilitators and handlers, while multiple teams are currently working to arrest remaining suspects. Initial investigations suggest that the network was being operated from neighboring countries and maintained links with Indian-backed proxy elements, including the BLA, BLF, and Majid Brigade.

Foiled Plot Involving a Minor

The operation comes just days after law enforcement agencies thwarted another terror plan in Karachi, in which a minor Baloch girl was being radicalised through social media propaganda.

According to investigators, the child was exposed to images, videos, and propaganda material related to Mahrang Baloch and Shari Baloch in an attempt to groom her for a suicide attack. Timely intervention not only rescued the minor but also prevented another major terror incident in the city.

Why Karachi Has Become a Target

Security officials say Karachi has increasingly become a fallback target for banned outfits after repeated operational setbacks in Balochistan.

In recent months, BLA and BLF militants have targeted innocent civilians in Balochistan, including children, labourers, government officials, and other non-combatants. Financial institutions in areas such as Zhob and Panjgur, where ordinary Baloch citizens earn their livelihoods, have also come under attack.

Militants Losing Ground in Balochistan

Sustained counter-terrorism operations have significantly reduced the tactical and operational capabilities of both the BLA and BLF across Balochistan. Several key commanders have been eliminated, logistical routes disrupted, and recruitment networks dismantled.

Crucially, the people of Balochistan have rejected these terrorist groups, refusing to support violence that targets civilians, livelihoods, and development. With shrinking space and declining influence in the province, banned outfits are increasingly relying on urban terrorism and online radicalisation, including the exploitation of innocent and underage girls, as a last resort.

Security agencies said such attempts will continue to be countered through intelligence-led operations and coordinated enforcement, ensuring the safety of Karachi and national stability.
