In a major blow to the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), its second-in-command of the Majeed Brigade, Rahman Gul alias Ustad Mureed, has been killed in Afghanistan’s Helmand province.
Security officials confirmed that Rahman Gul, in his 40s and a native of Nushki, Balochistan, was gunned down by an unidentified kill-team late Monday. He was regarded as the mastermind of the Jaffar Express attack and was involved in orchestrating multiple terrorist operations, including attacks targeting Chinese nationals in Pakistan.
In 2023, Gul sustained serious injuries during a targeted assault in Herat, Afghanistan, but had continued his role as the deputy commander to Hammal Rehan, overseeing suicide operations of the Majeed Brigade.
The Majeed Brigade, notorious for suicide missions and high-profile attacks, was designated as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) by the United States just last month.
Analysts say Gul’s killing represents a serious setback to the BLA’s tactical wing, weakening its capacity to mount high-impact operations.
