Security forces on Tuesday foiled an attempted bank attack by armed militants belonging to the banned terrorist outfit Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) in Chatkan area of Panjgur district, officials said.

According to initial reports, terrorists attempted to target a bank but were swiftly confronted by security forces. The militants were neutralized while trying to flee, preventing potential casualties and financial loss. A search and clearance operation has been launched in the surrounding areas to ensure no other terrorists are present.

Earlier, intense gun fires were reported between security forces and terrorists in Panjgur. Officials confirmed that several militants have been surrounded, and terrorists have suffered casualties; however, no official death toll has been released so far.

Police officials confirmed that one police personnel was martyred during the exchange of fire, while two civilians passing through the area sustained injuries and were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Security agencies said the situation remains under control, and operations will continue until all remaining threats are eliminated.

BLA’s Pattern of Bank Looting and Highway Crimes

Security sources noted that the BLA has increasingly resorted to bank looting and highway blockades to finance its terrorist activities.

In January 2025, dozens of armed BLA militants attacked Zehri town, torching a Levies station and a NADRA office. The militants also looted a private bank, escaping with more than Rs90 million from the strongroom.

Similarly, on February 24, 2025, BLA terrorists blocked the Quetta–Sibi highway at Pir Ghaib and Aab Ghum after a three-day religious gathering in Sibi. Armed with modern weapons, the militants stopped vehicles, checked passengers, and looted cash, mobile phones, and watches from travelers returning to Quetta.

Security officials said such attacks demonstrate the group’s shift towards organized criminal activity, targeting civilians and financial institutions.

Authorities have vowed to continue intelligence-based operations against banned outfits operating in Balochistan. Security forces reaffirmed their resolve to protect civilians, critical infrastructure, and economic assets across the province.
