Winning hearts essential for sustained peace in Balochistan: Bilawal Bhutto

Describing the issue in Balochistan as both “historic and complex,” PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari emphasized that achieving lasting peace in the province cannot depend solely on kinetic measures.

Speaking during the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) delegates gathering for the three-day platinum jubilee celebrations, he stressed that sustainable peace requires a comprehensive strategy focused on “winning the hearts and minds of the people.”

Bilawal acknowledged that the challenges in Balochistan are often not fully understood at the federal level, asserting that consistent hard work, meaningful engagement, and sustained investment are essential for progress. He mentioned the provincial government’s efforts to launch initiatives that move beyond kinetic approaches and instead focus on projects designed to build trust and goodwill among Balochistan’s people.

Reflecting on Pakistan’s broader challenges, Bilawal also praised the role of Pakistani journalists during a period of heightened tension with India. He highlighted how journalists upheld principles of credibility and truth while combating disinformation by India, describing their work as commendable. He noted the significant role of digital media as a national resource, applauding the government’s decision to lift bans on digital platforms during the conflict, while expressing hope that such freedoms would continue to be protected.

Bilawal stressed the dangers of targeted misinformation campaigns aimed at regions like Balochistan, Sindh, and Kashmir. He pledged to collaborate with PFUJ to introduce laws designed to combat disinformation and ensure journalistic protections. He urged the federal government to re-evaluate certain policies affecting the media and called on journalists to join hands in the collective effort to safeguard their profession.
