Two individuals lost their lives, and 11 others sustained injuries on Monday when a motorcycle rigged with explosives detonated in the bustling market area of Rakhni, located in Balochistan’s Barkhan district, local officials reported.
Deputy Commissioner Abdullah Khosa noted, “The explosive device was concealed on a motorcycle parked in the main market of Rakhni. Unfortunately, the blast resulted in two fatalities and left 11 others injured.” He confirmed that four of the injured are in critical condition and have been transferred to Dera Ghazi Khan for urgent medical care. Several surrounding buildings, shops, and a car were also damaged due to the explosion.
Emergency protocols were swiftly enacted, placing all hospitals within Barkhan on high alert. Security forces, including police, Levies, and Frontier Corps personnel, quickly secured the blast site, began evidence collection, and launched a search operation to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
This attack follows a similar incident in March in the Khuzdar district of Balochistan, where a remotely detonated explosive attached to a parked motorcycle killed four individuals and injured five others.
After the Rakhni explosion, Deputy Commissioner Abdullah Khosa visited the hospital to check on the injured and organized an emergency meeting with the medical staff to streamline treatment efforts.
