The Balochistan government has unveiled an ambitious plan to upgrade around 1,000 schools as part of a major education overhaul in the upcoming fiscal year budget, aimed at addressing long-standing gaps in the province’s education sector.
The decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, where officials reviewed budget preparations and discussed a comprehensive strategy to improve education and bring out-of-school children into classrooms.
During the meeting, Chief Secretary Shakeel Qadir Khan briefed participants on key features of the upcoming budget. He said a five-year comprehensive program has been proposed to enroll out-of-school children across the province, with the goal of maximizing school enrollment.
As part of the initiative, the government plans to upgrade 679 primary schools and 409 middle schools in the next fiscal year. Officials believe that upgrading nearly 1,000 schools will help bridge the educational imbalance that has developed over the past 15 years.
The meeting also reviewed a proposal to provide monthly stipends to female students in a bid to promote girls’ education and improve attendance, particularly in underserved and remote areas.
In addition, the Planning and Development Department presented details of 308 development schemes worth Rs174 billion, covering multiple sectors including education and public service delivery.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Bugti said that reforming the education sector is a top priority for his government and stressed that it is the state’s responsibility to ensure every child has access to education.
He added that education, healthcare, and the provision of basic facilities will be central to the next budget, noting that investment in education is essential for securing a brighter future for Balochistan.
The chief minister also emphasized that the government is taking practical steps to modernize educational infrastructure and align the province’s education system with contemporary requirements, ensuring better opportunities for the younger generation.
