Inspector General of Police (IGP) Balochistan Mohammad Tahir said that although terrorist incidents increased across the province during 2025, prompt and effective action by law enforcement agencies helped prevent large-scale attacks.

Addressing a press conference at the Central Police Office in Quetta, the IG said police and other security agencies operated under difficult conditions throughout the year. He said 1,052 terrorism-related incidents were reported in Balochistan in 2025, resulting in 537 fatalities and 1,056 injuries.

The IG said 2,702 intelligence-based operations were conducted against militant networks, leading to the killing of 89 terrorists. He added that improved coordination and intelligence helped reduce the impact of major attacks despite a rise in overall incidents.

IG Mohammad Tahir said security challenges also increased in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, but stressed that the situation was effectively managed in both provinces.

He said police reforms, merit-based recruitment, and stricter implementation of standard operating procedures were underway. Renovation work on 81 police stations and development of 30 data centres is in progress, while the Safe City Project in Quetta is fully operational.

The IG said police welfare had been improved and digitised, while technology including drone surveillance and digital monitoring systems was being used to counter emerging threats.

He noted that 14,200 crimes were reported across the province in 2025, including 1,507 narcotics cases, adding that internal accountability measures were being enforced against erring officials.

In his New Year message, the IG urged citizens to celebrate responsibly and said improved security since August 2025 reflected better coordination between police, Levies, and the public.
