Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti on Tuesday chaired the 22nd session of the State Defence Conference in Quetta, reaffirming the government’s commitment to strengthening law and order while accelerating development initiatives across Balochistan.
The conference, convened approximately every 21 days, primarily reviews progress on the implementation of decisions taken in previous meetings, making it a key coordination and accountability forum.
Broad Participation Across Institutions
The meeting was attended by the Corps Commander Balochistan, provincial ministers, and other senior civil and military officials. Representatives of federal and provincial institutions and departments were also present, along with security forces including the Pakistan Army, Frontier Corps, and Pakistan Coast Guard.
Participants were directed to utilise all available resources to ensure the development and progress of Balochistan.
Focus on Security and Development
The conference carried out a comprehensive review of the province’s security landscape, ongoing development initiatives, and broader governance strategy. The Chief Minister instructed that all available resources should be effectively mobilised to ensure that the benefits of development directly reach the public.
Addressing the session, Chief Minister Bugti said the forum has become a key platform for strengthening coordination on law and order and ensuring effective implementation of development policies.
“It is the state’s responsibility to ensure that the fruits of development reach the common people of Balochistan,” he said.
Afghan Refugee Repatriation Reviewed
The conference also reviewed the ongoing process of repatriation of Afghan refugees. Officials were instructed to ensure that the return of refugees is carried out in a dignified, safe, and organised manner.
Participants were briefed on the current progress of repatriation measures, with emphasis on maintaining humanitarian standards throughout the process.
Tribute to Security Forces
During the session, participants paid tribute to the sacrifices of security forces, police personnel, and the people of Balochistan for their role in maintaining peace.
Special homage was paid to martyred Lady Constable Malik Naz for her bravery and sacrifice in the line of duty.
The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment from all stakeholders to work collectively for peace, stability, and prosperity in Balochistan, reiterating their resolve to ensure a secure and progressive future for the province.
